John is a compassionate, dedicated and down to earth psychotherapist with a longstanding passion for working with common mental health problems and evidence based therapies.

He holds a bachelors degree (with honours) in Psychology and post graduate qualifications in High Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Evidenced Based Psychological Treatment, as well as CBT and innovative group approaches (for which he was awarded the student prize for outstanding coursework). He also holds practitioner certificates in Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Repossessing (EMDR) and has attended countless further training and CPD events.

John has a special interest in third wave therapy approaches and the application of contextual behavioural science to psychedelic assisted therapy.

He currently splits his work time between three professional roles:

Founder of Phoenix Minds

• John’s private practice for which he offers bespoke therapy to a small caseload of clients, as well as clinical supervision and ad-hoc consultancy work.

CBT Lead for an NHS Talking Therapy Service

• Leading on the provision of CBT across a busy and diverse, inner London Talking Therapy service.

• Providing line management and case management to a team of High Intensity CBT therapists.

• Facilitating clinical supervision groups (incorporating a range of clinical approaches including CBT, ACT and MCT).

Psychedelic Assisted Therapist

• Providing bespoke therapeutic interventions as part of a clinical research organisation, specialising in psychedelic clinical trials.

John has been working in the field of Mental Health for over 15 years within primary, secondary and tertiary care services as well as the voluntary and private sector.

He lives in London with his wife, two young children and his cats (Norman and Bernard). :)
